India registered an emphatic 99-run victory over Australia in the 2nd ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24, 2023. With this win, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
India batted first and posted a mammoth, thanks to centuries from Shubman Gill (104) and Iyer, was out of action for six months, slammed 105 off 90 balls to take. Gill was particularly impressive, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes in his innings. Iyer also played a brilliant knock, hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Gill (104 off 97 balls) and Iyer (105 off 90 balls) shared a stroke-filled 200-run stand off 164 balls before Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out off 37 balls) unleashed carnage to fire India to 399 for five, the hosts’ highest total against Australia in ODIs.
Skipper K L Rahul chipped in with 52 off 38 balls.
Chasing India’s mammoth 399, Australia was 56 for 2 when rain stopped play with David Warner (26) and Marnus Labuschagne (17) at the crease.
As many as 11 overs were lost due to the rain interruption of Australia.
Australia was set a revised target of 317 in 33 overs against India after rain disrupted the proceedings of the second ODI of the three-match series, here on Sunday.
Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (3/41) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/42) shared six wickets between them to bowl Australia out for 217 in 28.2 overs.
India and Australia will play the third and final ODI of the series on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the Rajkot Cricket Stadium in Rajkot.
