India beat Sri Lanka by 19 Runs
India’s returning captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. Sri Lanka managed to take the early wicket of Shafali Verma (9), but after that Smriti Mandhana (46) and Jemimah Rodrigues (42) took their team forward with a strong partnership of 73 runs. Sri Lanka’s bowling was poor due to which India struggled till the end but managed to reach 116/7.
In reply, Sri Lanka was dealt a huge blow by the fast spell of India’s young bowler Titas Sadhu (3/6). The fast bowler took three top-order wickets in the powerplay, including the wicket of the dangerous Chamari Athapaththu. Sri Lanka’s middle-order showed promise by struggling in the middle overs, but India’s spinners kept the scoring rate in check and took wickets at crucial intervals.
Sri Lanka finished at 97/8, trailing by 20 runs. Hasini Perera was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 25 runs.
