PM Narendra Modi Lays Foundation Stone of International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi
The Varanasi Cricket Stadium is a proposed international cricket stadium in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. PM Narendra Modi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of t an international cricket stadium in Varanasi. The stadium is being built by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The stadium is expected to be completed by December 2025.
Great Indian Cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of the international cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. BCCI President Roger Binny, its vice-president Rajiv Shukla and secretary Jay Shah were present on the occasion. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also attended the function.
The stadium will have a capacity of 30,000 spectators and will be equipped with all the latest facilities, including a floodlit field, a modern drainage system, and state-of-the-art media facilities. The stadium will also have a number of other features, such as a museum, a cricket academy, and a restaurant.
The Varanasi Cricket Stadium is designed by the architect firm Populous. The stadium is inspired by the rich history and culture of Varanasi, and it will feature a number of elements that reflect the city’s unique identity. For example, the roof of the stadium will be shaped like a crescent moon, which is a symbol of Lord Shiva, the patron deity of Varanasi.
The Uttar Pradesh government said that it has spent ₹ 121 crore to acquire the land for the stadium while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will spend ₹ 330 crore on its construction.
